OUR STORIES OF IMPACT

Here at FoundationPlusOne, we’re committed to investing our expertise and resources in order to further achieve our cause. Since 2016, we’ve been supporting the children in schools across the Baltimore, DC, and Virginia metropolitan area in a variety of ways and measuring our success not by monetary size, but by more qualitative measurements such as the scale and effectiveness of our efforts. Just imagine what we can achieve together!

PlusOne has the potential to reach students that are often forgotten. The organization has already had a powerful impact in the life of my student. When a student knows that basic needs are being met, they are able to thrive. As a school counselor, I am excited about the vision of Plus One and the opportunity to work with them to touch the lives of students- one at a time.

First let me start by saying thank you. I am truly blessed. I can't voice how grateful I am for being chosen because of who I have raised my daughter to be. I am a single parent of 3 children and I solely take care of them alone. This organization has made my life a lot easier so far this school year. I honestly would not have been able to afford everything she wants to do and provide at the same time, you guys have made that possible. I appreciate all you have done thus far and everything to come. Thank you so much for believing in my daughter. She is definitely a wonderful daughter and all around great gal.
Thank you.

Thank you Foundation PlusOne for your support last year and continued support for my children during virtual learning this year. As a single parent of 10 year old twin children, part-time care-giver for my parents, and working full-time, your support has helped lighten my financial load. My family appreciates your collaborative planning with one of school counselors at Lansdowne Elementary. The time and attention put into the presentation of your supports, meeting the unique needs of our family and community shows through each gift. My children loved the coats last year I'm excited to hand them down to family members, where I find myself often  on the receiving end. Sometimes, it is the little things in life that mean the most thank you for all of your support, it means the most to my little family.

School Counselor Survey

• How has our program had an impact on the students we have helped?

• Last year, our families communicated to me (School counselor) that Foundation PlusOne relieved small financial burdens, met their unique needs and felt special with each gift.

• Have you seen any behavior improvement?

• Student supported in this program were not targeted behavioral school-related issues. One of the students does struggle with general anxiety disorder, which as her school counselor, I’ve supported her in school to help her become emotionally ready to learn. Mom describes her daughter as feeling empathic to her mother’s feelings, so when mom did not feel stressed financially, this reflected on how her student would emotionally attend school that day. Another family had a daughter who would tantrum by shutting down and having fits where she would cry for long periods of time. She is very close to her father who was feeling financially stressed. For a week after gifts were dropped off to the family, the teacher reported less tantrum, crying-fits and be available to learn more often.

• Attendance improvement?

• N/A – all students who were supported did not have issues regarding attendance.

• Self-Esteem improvement?

• Self-esteem improvement would be focused more on the parents. The two parents that are receiving support this year are single parents of two children. The coat, body care, household goods and snacks took “one more thing” they had to worry about off their plate. The father, was deciding which groceries he could afford that week for the children. When he saw your donations, he would describe Foundation PlusOne as the ‘gift fairy.’

Sincerely,

Survey Questions:

  • How have our program had an impact on the students we have helped?

  • Your programs have helped our students with limited resources to attend field trips, participate in activities and have school supplies that enhance their participation and inclusion in the school environment.  School resources are preserved allowing the school to use resources for additional offerings for students.

  • Have you seen any behavior improvement?

  • We have seen improvement in student behavior.  Students feel more accepted and included because of the resources Foundation Plus One provides.  Students feel like all other students because they know that the cost of participation in field trips and having needed supplies is covered and they are less stressed and worried about being included.

  • Attendance improvement?

  • Attendance has improved for the majority of students who participated in the program.

  • Self-Esteem improvement?

  • The self-esteem of the students has definitely increased. The students are so pleased with their school pictures (it is the first time many of them are receiving pictures). They are always proud to receive school supplies and the beautiful birthday cakes make them feel especially important.
